Group forms to preserve Civil War graves, history

(The Highlander) - Burnet County is the final resting place for 514 confirmed Civil War veterans.

Research has discovered that 478 of these veterans served in the Confederate forces and 36 served in the Union forces.

Around the world established “camps” honor the Confederate soldier. There are 100 Sons of Confederate Veterans camps in Texas.

“A Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) camp is now forming in Burnet County,” said organizer and Doak Field in a statement.

“Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces.

“Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically.” The SCV has ongoing programs at the local, state, and national levels which offer members a wide range of activities.

“Preservation work, marking Confederate soldier’s graves, historical re-enactments, scholarly publications, and regular meetings to discuss the military and political history of the war between the states are only a few of the activities sponsored by local units, called camps,” Field continued. “The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for…

Our politicians and news personalities talk about “the narrative.” Our academies teach young minds to accept “expert opinion.” Our philosophers argue that truth is “subjective.” Social theorists argue that truth is an “illusion” that powerful people use to control others.

Whenever I hear Democrat Senator Cory Booker all riled up on television, he’s talking about “her truth,” “his truth,” or even “their truth” — as if a hundred conflicting descriptions of the same event could all be truthful.

During Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, Democrats called Dr. Christine Blasey Ford to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ford claimed that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her in 1982 when both were in high school. Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegation and argued that many parts of Ford’s story didn’t add up. How the Confederate monument in Orangeburg came to be; historian suggests new location

(Not something you see every day, an author citing himself as a source. At least he was honest and pointed out that even former slaves donated what they could afford to the Orangeburg Monument fund in the 1880’s - DD)

(Richard Reid, Times and Democrat) - After the American Civil War ended in 1865 with the victory by the Union and the loss by the Confederate states, people in the South decided to pay homage to the men and women who lost their lives fighting that war.

The general plans were to unveil a statue that would honor and remind the people of the sacrifices of the soldiers that fought for their belief.

On May 25, 1887, The T&D reported: “There is no use in talking about it, Orangeburg County is going to have a Confederate Monument.”

Then on June 15, 1887: “The Waiter Drill -- On Tuesday afternoon about twenty-five young ladies met at the Armory. A constitution was read by Capt. Hamilton, and adopted by the Society, so that the ‘Orangeburg Confederate Monument Association’ is started. We want now to hear that every household has a name on the roll.

Museum’s ‘Knight Rider’ replica car got a speeding ticket. It hasn’t gone anywhere in years

(KARK) - It’s a mystery on the streets of New York City. What traffic law violator with unpaid fines is driving a black Pontiac Trans Am that looks like the car with the talking computer from the 1980s TV series “Knight Rider,” and even has the same license plate?

Officials at an Illinois museum are among the people who would like to know. The Volo Museum near Chicago, which has a replica of the show’s Trans Am that hasn’t moved from its exhibit in years, recently received a $50 traffic ticket from the Big Apple, alleging its car was doing 36 mph (59 kph) in a 25 mph (40 kph) zone in Brooklyn on April 22.

The ticket came complete with traffic camera photos showing a black Trans Am with the California license plate KNIGHT, the same plate as the car on the show and the novelty one on the museum’s unregistered car. The license plate is also connected to five other unpaid traffic violations in New York City since late 2024, city records show.

Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Members at the 103rd Alabama Division Children of the Confederacy Convention

(Prattville Dragoon SCV) - Members of the Prattville Dragoons Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1524 Members attended the 103rd Alabama Division Children of the Confederacy Convention held at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury AL on Saturday June 13th. Camp 1524 Adjutant Butler was on the reenactment color guard led by Brigade Commander Jeremy Boothe and they posted colors to open the Comvention. Additionally, from Camp 1524, Commander Waldo, compatriot Crowley and his wife and compatriot Schwartz were also in attendance. Following posting of the colors, the CofC Creed was recited and pledges and salutes made to the Christian, Alabama State, and Confederate flags. A welcome to guests including UDC officers was made by President Waldo presiding over the Convention. She also provided a President’s report for activities completed in her chapter furthering the Cause undertaken during her tenure. The Tuscaloosa chapter also provided a report for activities of that chapter from the last year. Elections were then held and Camp 1524 Commander Waldo’s son was announced as the new President for the coming year. (The Blaze) - A congressional hearing took a tense turn when Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) challenged Southern Poverty Law Center President Bryan Fair over the organization’s claim that abortion restrictions are tied to white supremacy.

“Your organization said that restricting and banning abortion is a tool that the far right uses to maintain white supremacy,” Gill began, asking Fair, “Do you believe that pro-lifers are white supremacists?”

After Fair dodged the question several times, Gill asked again, “I don’t think that pro-lifers are white supremacists; do you?”

“What I think is that reproductive liberty is a right that every woman should enjoy,” Fair answered, still dodging the question.

“How many babies in the United States that are aborted are black?” Gill asked, answering himself, “About 40% of abortions nationwide are of black babies. Blacks represent about 13% of the population. Does that sound like something a white supremacist would oppose?”

An Alberta Fact Check

(Cory Morgan, Rebel News) - Serial NDP staffer Brian Topp wrote a scathing piece in the Globe and Mail that called for Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to be “intellectually demolished”. It quickly descended into intellectual chicanery in stating there is no such “legal process required under the Canadian Constitution,” when it comes to a province pursuing independence.

While the process isn’t constitutionally entrenched, it is legally codified within the Clarity Act. Provincial independence may not be easy, but there is a legal path for its pursuit.

When I was a kid, I never really gave it a second thought. I just always assumed that everybody kinda knew where they came from and when I hit preteen, I learned that wasn’t the case, and everybody saw me as a nerd and everybody saw me as someone who was just obsessed with things that didn’t matter such as history and ancestry. But overtime, what I learned is that those things matter more than we really realize in the beginning because they help us in growth and they kind of point us in the direction that we need to go. And I realize over my years of research which have been many now, that people that don’t have an ancestry or don’t know what their ancestry is seem to get lost a lot more easily because they don’t really have anything to cling to and that’s sad. The Department of Justice filed a superseding indictment against the SPLC accusing it of funneling donor cash to hate groups they were then telling donors they were fighting.

One figure, referred to as “Employee-2” in the indictment, is described as a “person who would become Director of the SPLC’s Intelligence Project.”

Former top SPLC official Heidi Beirich is believed to be “Employee-2” in the federal indictiment against the bloated anti-hate nonprofit.

Real estate agent finds Arkansas house overrun with snakes

(UPI) - An Arkansas real estate agent arrived to a scheduled showing of a home for sale and ended up capturing video of some squatters -- a large number of snakes.

Christopher White of Century 21 said he arrived to show a property to some potential buyers in central Arkansas when he noticed the property was overrun with snakes.

Two-Fifths of Americans give grim prediction for country’s next 250 years

(NORDOT) - As of next month, the U.S. will have made it 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, but according to a new survey reported on by The Hill, a shockingly large portion of Americans have a grim prediction for how things will go over the next 250 years.

Reporting Tuesday on the findings from a new Reuters/Ipsos poll surveying Americans about the state of the country and its future, The Hill noted that over a third of respondents, 38 percent, predicted that the U.S. will not survive to its 500th anniversary in 2276, instead suggesting that it will have broken up into multiple separate nations by then. The remaining 62 percent predicted that it would be able to endure.

The pessimism was more acute for Democratic respondents, with 40 percent predicting that the U.S. would not survive another 250 years. Only 26 percent of Republicans chose the same answer.

(Memphis Commercial Appeal) - Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk Tami Sawyer has been arrested and is facing federal charges.

Sawyer, a former Shelby County Commission member, appeared in federal court on the afternoon of June 15, but it was not immediately clear what Sawyer has been charged with.

Her attorney, John Keith Perry, declined to give information on what Sawyer had been indicted for ahead of a hearing on the 15th, but did confirm he was representing her.

Who is Tami Sawyer?

Sawyer served on the Shelby County Commission from 2018 to 2022. She ran unsuccessfully for Memphis mayor in 2019 against then-incumbent Jim Strickland.

In 2024, Sawyer ran for Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk. She defeated incumbent Joe Brown in the Democratic primary and won the general election with 53% of the vote. Prior to her roles in elected office, Sawyer was also a prominent face of TakeEmDown901, a citizen-led movement to remove Memphis’ Confederate statues.
