The city of Brandon is considering moving a 7-foot-tall Confederate monument that currently stands in the middle of downtown.
Mayor Butch Lee said a vote by the Board of Aldermen on Monday was for a civil engineer to look at the statue and see where it could be relocated. Lee said he wants the monument, which depicts a soldier on a marble shaft, to stay in Brandon.
The monument was put up almost 120 years ago as part of a project spearheaded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Lee believes the statue will stay in Brandon because of its historical context.
The mayor said he has brought the matter to the board because he thinks it’s in danger, as people have crashed into the monument and someone shot at the statue, breaking a piece of it off. Lee believes it should be preserved…
I propose the statue be replaced with an even bigger and taller version, the better to enrage the nigger (and the wigger)!
