Lampasas SCV Camp holds Black Powder competition in San Saba County
On Saturday, May 3rd, Cheryl Ayers of Williamson County took home the first-place trophy at the Black Powder Turkey Shoot hosted by the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) Saltworks Camp No. 2353 of Lampasas. The event, held at C S Farm in San Saba County, saw 35 attendees with 28 shooters competing 15 on pistols and 13 on rifles.
The competition successfully raised funds to cover the cost of the Texas Historical subject marker “KNIGHTS OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE,” which is currently awaiting approval from the Texas Historical Commission in Austin. Additionally, funds will be allocated for purchasing gunpowder for another ongoing project: a full-scale cannon with limber 2. Seven camp members plan to attend artillery school this October in Ft. Concho near San Angelo.
