Another Great read from Mr. Don Smith over at Confederate Honor - DD
This post contains the text of the Preface to the final report of the Naming Commission. The Preface details the judgments of the commission on the overall level of respect that Confederates and Confederate heritage deserve from the U.S. Department of Defense. Several members of the Naming Commission have said that they were confident that their actions, judgments, and recommendations were supported by a large, bipartisan majority of Congress. Accordingly, the Naming Commission’s actions and judgments are being interpreted by many as being representative of the official will of Congress.
In subsequent posts, I will comment on portions of the Preface’s content that, in my opinion, should not go unchallenged. Some are deliberately insulting and disrespectful to former Confederates and their ancestors. Others seem impossible to justify. They are boldfaced below.
If this is what Congress thinks of our ancestors, then it owes us a fuller explanation. Our individual Members of Congress need to justify what this commission did and why they allowed it to do it.
