We Are the Militia
( Another great and hard-hitting read from The Society of Archangel Michael. - DD)
(The Society of Archangel Michael) - In modern society, the word “militia” invokes a derogatory connotation. Militias are seen as extremist in nature, highly militarized, and a threat to American society. Major outlets like the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and CNN describe militias to be “paramilitary training… with ties to White supremacy.” It comes as no surprise that the pejorative nature of the term entails its exclusive application to the right-wing. In fact, a 2020 report by the House Subcommittee on Intelligence and Counterterrorism referred to right-wing militiamen as “extremists,” but a left-wing militiaman only as an “Antifa activist.”
Any astute reader of American history, however, will recognize this as hogwash. Militias were not only instrumental in our triumph over the British in the War of Independence, but so too were the early Republic’s primary vehicle of state security. Thomas Jefferson, and various likeminded Founders, viewed militias as justice manifest; a check against federal tyranny. Jefferson, influenced by the writings of James Harrington, wrote that “men accustomed unto their arms and liberties will never endure the yoke of tyranny.” And while the U.S. has long since adopted a national, standing army, the militia remains a permanent fixture in American jurisprudence.
It thus begs the question: who or what is…
