(The Southern Vindicator) - For those who may not be aware, I belong to an organization called the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). Not only do I belong, but have a lifetime membership, and am currently the Oklahoma Division Commander. As a member of the SCV, I receive the bi-monthly magazine called the Confederate Veteran.
In the current January/February 2026 issue, our Chief of Heritage Operations, Paul C. Graham, wrote an excellent article, “Let’s Plant a Seed”. At the heading of the article he appropriately placed a quote from Confederate President Jefferson Davis:
“Truth crushed to the ground is truth still, and like a seed will rise again.”
How true that is. In his article, Mr. Graham talks about the extinction of the Judean Date Palm tree. It seems that the ancient Romans annihilated this tree due to the economic value it had to Judea. But, 2000 years later during the excavation of some ruins, a jar of seeds was discovered. Again, these seeds were left untouched for another 40+ years until a botanist had the idea to plant one. Eight weeks later a small shoot made its way…
