STOP WITH THE DRIVE-BY HISTORY
STOP WITH THE DRIVE-BY HISTORY
(Mindy Esposito) - At best, you were not told the whole story. At worst, you were deliberately lied to. Either way, you have it wrong.
Nashville, Tennessee
For more than a century and a half, Americans have been trained to repeat one sentence. One slogan. One simplified conclusion. “The war was only about slavery.” Say it enough times and it starts to feel like fact. Put it in textbooks. Turn it into children’s curriculum. Repeat it in media sound bites. Shame anyone who questions it. That is not education. That is conditioning.
Drive by history is not scholarship. It is intellectual laziness dressed up as moral superiority. It is quoting headlines instead of reading documents. It is repeating slogans instead of studying sources. It is certainty without curiosity. And it has poisoned serious public understanding of our past.
History is not built on one speech and four cherry picked documents. It is built on thousands of pages of records. State conventions. Legislative debates. Constitutions. Official proclamations. Correspondence. Votes. Public statements. Legal theory. Regional divisions. Competing…

Do Americans living in the UK find it irksome or better than the US experience?
I can comfortably answer this question as a Texan who moved to the UK after the 2016 election. Yes, I miss mexican food and stores that are open late but that is literally the only things I miss about the country. I have not set foot back in the corrupt, greed fueled, racist, phony moralistic, military state. I have seen much of the world and the more I see the more I realise how brainwashed Americans are. You are told you live in the greatest country on earth. You are forced to recite the pledge of allegiance every school day. Only 1 other country in the world does that, north Korea. In many ways the US is the worst country in the world because it had so much potential and has allowed itself to be turned into a land of servitude for the benefit of the top 2% richest individuals. You've allowed a convicted criminal, pedophile and thief to further enrich himself, his family, and his rich friends. No, I do not regret leaving the US. I am so incredibly lucky that my kids will have better lives in every single way over here.
