This has to be one of my favorite tear-jerker songs of all time. It doesn’t hurt that it’s sung by the ultimate outsider, Dwight Yoakam of Pikeville, Kentucky. The record execs all claimed Dwight was ‘too country’ for their country labels until he became a star. Here’s Dwight with “I Sang Dixie:”
