Fly the flag your conscience bids you fly. Freedom allows much. But I think it is wise to recognize that a great deal of history has played out since Lincoln's War. In light of WW2 alone, I think we can expect that characterizing the American flag as "the banner of Northern Occupation" TODAY is going to alienate lots of really fine people- and that rather needlessly. But again, let each one be convinced in his own mind.
